Sherrie Cannell always knew that fine art would be her destiny. However, due to advice given to her in her early years, she took a more practical approach and attended a 4 year visual communications art program in college. This lead her to prusue a career in advertising upon graduation. She became very versitile as an artist working in numerous styles and mediums.
After decades of creating visual communications, she decided that whatever gifts she had, she was going to use them as fully as she could and made the transition to her first love, fine art. Her recent figurative work shows life in subtle intimacy as well as individual strength.

Artist Statement
Like wind flowing across a storm lit prairie, the female face is always changing, never still. Behind the masks - we don to cloak the psychological mysteries that delineate our history - are the unseen clues to who we were, who we are, and who we will become.
The purpose of my work is to inform now and to record for history these changes. I use artist tools to elucidate something as intangible as an emotion, using these tools to uncover a relationship between the subject, the viewer and our changing world.
It is true that life is different for those who are not the accepted norm. I find this fact to be a very narrow view of human relations as they really are. The real truth is there are no boundaries to love. |
