These small paintings are so much fun to do. I find them a wonderful escape into the things I love like fly fishing and history. I am presently on the hunt for a suitable frame for this work.
I was recently watching a program about Salmon fishing in Canadian rivers during the 1950's. Woowee! those Salmon were huge. How fun that must have been to catch one. Sadly logging practices of the 1960' and 1970's harmed these spawning grounds so that today fishing stocks will never be what they once were. I hope that during these times of historically low runs of fish, that Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) will work hard to manage a healthy and sustainable aquatic ecosystem for Canadians and our visiting friends.
Singer / entertainer Bing Crosby enjoyed several days fishing and hunting along the Grand Cascapedia River. He stayed at New Dereen Camp during the 1949 season and was proud to land a 33 pound salmon during his visit.
MID CURRENT is a 9" x 12" work on watercolour paper.
